Forum Romanum/Forum Romanum

23.09.2009

On the same day we went also to Forum Romanum which was built in Athens when there was no more pace for the commerce on the ancient agora. There is a Tower of Winds located with representations of all ancient gods of wind among which the most famous seems to be Zephyr spilling flowers and Boreas blowing with old wind through a shell. Forum Romanum spreads along the hill of Acropolis, along one of the parts of the Street Market. Our room has a view over this street which glitters with blaze of colors during the night and some parts of which seem to be for tourists and some for Athenians sitting in cafés and restaurants.

Rumunia to nie tylko disco/Romania is not only about dico music

Rumunia to nie tylko disco/Romania is not only about dico music

Today only a short note. I would like to recommend a temporary exhibition in the Warsaw Archeological Museum – „Culture of Cucutani” – I didn’t know that Romania has such excavations! The exhibition is well prepared, beautiful ceramic and additionally there is a pretty catalogue with all the objects included in the price of the ticket (PLN 8). Sorry for the quality of the pictures but it is forbidden to take pictures in the Museum so I had to content myself with the background consisting of waste bin and a postcard;-) Great way of spending lazy Saturday morning!
Podróż poślubna w góry/Honeymoon trip in the mountains

Podróż poślubna w góry/Honeymoon trip in the mountains

Mało turystów, piękne widoki, a przede wszystkim wspaniała przyroda. Jakie tam grzyby rosną! No i te bajkowe kolorowe lasy porośnięte mchem.

Ostatkiem sił, w akcie desperacji i protestu przeciwko głodowym porcjom w restauracji, zeszliśmy jeszcze do Kuźnic. I tam, kulinarne odkrycie!

A śnieg padał i padał!

When we begun our trip it was a beautiful Indian summer, then it started to rain torrentially and when we were finishing there were already snowdrifts… Anyway the trip was really great. We were living in the mountain chalet in Kalatowki, which was as a matter of fact rather a mountain hotel, very suitable. If I could have any reservations they would concern the amount of food which was considered in the chalet to be a sufficient portion:) If somebody is planning diet holidays, I recommend the chalet – there is no risk of getting fatter after the stayJ Thanks God there were no people strumming on a guitar, wearing big old sweaters which I really don’t’ like speaking about mountain tourism and could spoil my esthetical and sound impressions... Last words about the hotel – it has a very pleasant bar with a fireplace, pictures from the 60s on the walls, you can really spend here a relaxing evening and during summer there must be a beautiful view out of there.

On the first day we went to the holy service in the mountain church and to the nunnery with the cell of brother Albert. Than we climbed Nosal Mountain and we went to Zakopane (the most famous Polish mountain city). We had a lot of luck as there was a Polish Championship in ski jumping and we managed to see Malysz jumping – first place in good style! From Zakopane we went to the White Waterfall, following the way in the forest. The waterfall is beautiful and the path is easy so I recommend it to those who even prefer less active way of spending free time in Zakopane. Than we climbed Igla Mountain and I must say I liked this mountain most of all. Not too many tourists, beautiful views and most of all amazing nature. What mushrooms are growing there! And those fairy tale forests full of colors overgrown with moss.

The second day was devoted to the trip to Giewont – in heavy rain we managed to get not only to the shepherd's hut on Hala Konradowska but also to the top of the mountain despite the first snow this year in the mountains. On the top of Giewont Mountain it was not at all funny – nightmarish cold wind with rain and snow plus, what was the worst thing about it, we had to climb down hanging on the chains under those whether circumstances. The picture on which I am sitting in the hood and drinking tea is right from the Giewont Mountain, the same concerns the “ass” stuck to the mountain in sport clothes:) Honestly speaking, I was in a little panic…When we reached the mountain chalet we got wet to the skin. Using the very lasts reserves of energy, being desperate and protesting against the small portions in the restaurant, we went down to Kuźnice. And there we made a great discovery! Fantastic restaurant which I can recommend, called YURTA. It is easy to find as it is at the beginning of the way to Kalatowki on the left site of the path. The portions are enormous, everything fresh (I saw the chief preparing them in the kitchen), rather cheap and delicious! We started with a huge set for PLN 18 consisting of zurek (Polish traditional white soup), pork sirloin in mushroom souse and plenty of French fries and set of salads. As a matter of fact I should have finished with that but we decided to have a portion of fried saffron milk caps with herbs served with garlic toasts. Jacek was delighted, I a little bit less as for me they tasted a bit too much like snails, and I was also already overeaten. It cost also pennies and was really big – for someone less hungry it would be a sufficient dinner. Big bravo for this place!

And it was snowing and snowing! When we woke up on the other day, I could only sing “Last Christmas”, which is very well visible, I hope, on the pictures! The snow was showering down, the visibility was not big and the trees were covered with snow. We had a walk in Zakopane, where I bought a stock of traditional cheese which I am a fan of!
