Archeologiczna niespodzianka/Archeological surprise
Once I wrote about archeological site in Thermi. Today I want to write about something different – thanks to which a trip to Lesbos also make sense to all who love ancient monuments.
I would like to draw your attention to an incredible and well preserved aqueduct in a village called Moria. It’s not well described in the guides, therefore when we travelled to Moria almost at the end of our trip to Lesbos , we expected some ruins of the buildings. But what we saw, was a big surprise for us!
Even Jacek who is not particularly interested in archeology, was amazed.
The aqueduct is giant, well preserved and is so impressive. I must admit that it was the first time on the Greek islands when I saw such an impressive Romans building.
A wholly different thing is an amphitheater in the capital city of Lesbos, located on the hill over the town. The amphitheater comes from IV – I BC and despite the fact that it was one of the biggest buildings of this type on the islands, today what you can see is just a hole in the ground and some stones and nearby you can even see some horses.
