Monastyr Panagia Kounistra na Skiathos/Panagia Kounistra Monastery on Skiathos
Panagia Kounistra Monastery in my opinion is another worth seeing place on Skiathos.
O wiele mniejszy niż Moni Evangelistris (kliknij tutaj), oferuje kameralną atmosferę i spokój.
Much smaller than Moni Evangelistris (click here) offers intimate atmosphere and peace.
The Monastery is dated for 17th century and according to the tradition it was established by a monk Symeon who found the icon of Virgin Mary swinging in a pine tree, therefore the monastery took the name (Kounistra meaning the swing movement).
Oryginalną ikonę Matki Boskiej można podziwiać w katedrze w stolicy wyspy (uwaga, czynna tylko w dni i w godzinach naborzeństw).
Oprócz tej ciszy i spokoju w klasztorze zachwyca ilość kwiatów.
The original icon of Virgin Mary can be found in the cathedral in the island capital (opened only on days of masses).
Not only the silence is amazing there but also the multitude of flowers.
The monastery has no residents and is watched only by a single lady (I do not mean myself;-).
Warto wejść na chwilę do środka by obejrzeć drewniany ikonostas...
Its wooden iconostas is worth seeing...
but also beatiful wall paintings.
i na suficie
and on the ceiling
In my opinion it wins with Moni Evangelistris due to the lack of tourists and peaceful atmosphere.
Miłego weekendu!
Have a nice weekend!
