Ucieczka po górach/Running away in the mountains

24.09.2009

Niestety nie dało rady go obejrzeć z bliska, gdyż pilnował go dość namolny strażnik.

I would like come back to the reportage from Athens as the wheather conditions are not definetly convenient to take pictures. On the same date we went to 2 hills close to the Acropolis Hill. I will divide this post into 2 parts because we had made so many pictures. We could not resist the beauty of the views and most of all the amazing nature. First of the hills is the Hill of Philloppapos with an interesting statue from the Roman times on the top and with a cave that was supposed to be a prison of Socrates. It was very sultry, it was gathering for a storm. The sky was covered with milky fog. The hill is covered with exotic for us plants and is good view point for Acropolis. Despite the fact that it is almost a center, silence reigns over the hill, from time to time disturbed by some organized groups of tourists. Close to this hill there is another one, this time called the Hill of Nymphs who, according to the mythology, took care over small children. It is indeed the ancient Pnyx – a hill on which the gatherings of the citizens of Athens took place between VI and IV century BC. Famous speakers also addressed their audience there. There is also an astronomical observatory on the hill but we decided to spare ourselves the visit. There is also a beautiful wooden church of Agios Dymytrios on the hill. Unfortunately we have not managed to see it inside because it was guarded by some persistent guard. On the opposite slope there is an ancient city Kini. Not too much remained until our times, it is descending with cascades covered with fragrant rosemary. There is real silence and during all our trip we did not meet anybody despite two turtles;) We decided to return through the Theater of Dora Statou, and this vas definitely a mistake! The theater is nothing special itself and also we were drove away by 2 dogs on the stage. Additionally, one of the straps in the shoes broke and it started to rain. Thanks God we did not have to get a rabies vaccine:) There will not be a photo reportage from the escape:)
