Przez szklane ściany/Though glass walls

24.09.2009
Z zachwycających eksponatów można zobaczyć przede wszystkim oryginały Kariatyd poza jedną, którą Lord Egin wywiózł swojego czasu do wielkiej Brytanii i do tej spory trwa spór grecko – brytyjski o zwrot wielu cennych zabytków.

Our visit in the Acropolis Museum did not disappoint us. The Museum until the end of 2009 cots only 1 Euro but of course this was not the only reason of lack of disappointment, it is absolutely worth visiting. Among the breath – taking exhibits are most of all originals of Caryatids, except one which had been taken to Great Britain by Lord Egin and there is still a dispute whether they should return it to Greece. There is also plenty of Cores – statues of women with inlaid eyes, young men on horses, a man caring a calf on his shoulders and a box with inscription that you should give 1 ancient drachma for the temple if you were just married. There is also a representation of Athena fighting with giants and Heracles fighting with Triton and tympanums from the Athens temples. The Museum was built upon of a granted subsidies in the amount of more than EUR 129,000. The ground floor of the Museum is made of glass and under which you can still see excavations with some mosaics. The building has a balcony with a view over the Acropolis hill and 2 nice shops, although in September they were quite deprived of souvenirs therefore I would recommend to make shopping in the one that is located upstairs. The Museum is beautifully illuminated in the night and because it is partly made of glass you can see some exhibits and the crowds of tourists. Under the Museum there are sellers of plastic tomatoes, a train driving around lazy tourists and even an authentic organ – grinder.
