When I saw so many beautiful Christmas decorations and Christmas markets on foreign blogs, I got jealous;-) Therefore I will not be witting today about travelling but I want to show you how it looks here;-) Ok, I know it is just marketing but somehow I still like it;-)

Admittedly, I have not taken out Christmas decorations from cupboards but during last weekend I was testing a recipe which I want to use for Christmas. A poppy seed cake – a recipe that I found many many years ago in Elle, marked as “easy” – made us busy on Sunday morning for a few hours. Maybe I am exaggerating but the effect was worth our efforts. If someone wants to try – the recipe is underneath.

As the oven was busy with the cake, I couldn’t prepare a duck for dinner which forced us to leave (rather) warm apartment and go out for a dinner to the Old Town.

I must admit I was not impressed with the biggest Christmas tree in Warsaw, but well, it’s crisis – maybe they kept it the whole year in a store because I have an impression that last year it was exactly the same;)

It was windy and you risked breaking a leg with every step as the streets were not cleared from snow. Despite those whether conditions, there were many strollers, maybe encouraged with first sun after many days without.

No i doczekałam się!

And finally! First Christmas market:) This is rather not a Polish tradition, but for fun I took advantage of it.

Ładniejsza choinka była na rynku
A more pretty tree was on the Old Town Square

Holidays are holidays but practical information is also necessary:)

Nie tylko my zamarzaliśmy
Not only we were freezing

A oto przepis/And here is the recipe:

30 dag 3 razy zmielonego maku, ugotowanego uprzednio w mleku/300 grams of minced poppy seeds

1 kostka masła/1 butter

9 jaj/9 eggs

2 szklanki cukru pudru/2 glasses of icing sugar

60 dag jabłek renet/600 grams of sour apples

6 czubatych łyżek kaszy manny/6 spoons of manna

2,5 łyżeczki proszku do pieczenia/2,5 teaspoon of banking powder

Polewa/Icing:

½ kostki/masła ½ butter

2 łyżki kakao/2 spoons of cacao

½ szklanki cukru/ ½ glass of sugar

3 łyżki mleka/3 spoons of milk

1) Piekarnik nagrzać do 170 stopni.

6) Upiec ciasto ok. 1 godz. i 10 minut w formie wyłożonej papierem.

Warte 2 godzin weekendu!

1) The oven should be warmed up to 170 degrees.

2) Mash the butter with sugar (it takes some time and then I usually start regretting).

3) You add step by step one spoon of poppy seeds and one yolk, mashing the cake.

4) You grind the apples, add to the cake, add baking powder and manna.

5) You add whisked whites.

6) Bake the cake for app. 1 hour and 10 minutes.

7) You cook all ingredients of the icing for about 3 minutes and than decorate the cake.

Worth working!

No ale kasa poszła, choinka będzie :)

  11. I thought I would stop by to meet you! Thanks for visiting my blog. I am always excited to have more friends in blogland. I especially love to see how people in other parts of the world live. I think this is the first blog in Poland that I have read. I can't wait to learn more. Your town is beautiful. I enjoy seeing a place covered in snow. We don't get much of that here in the southeastern part of the US. Thanks for your kind comments on my blog. Carla
