Moje wielkie grzybobranie/My huge mashroom picking

Despite the fact that a few days ago I just came back from really hot Greece (it was much hotter than in June), today I want to write a few words about a different subject. Our beautiful Polish summer:)

Bo wtedy niestety ogarnia mnie depresja ;)

I am a summer animal and I like when it is hot but I appreciate also this season, at least as long as it does not rain. Because than I became depressed:)

Lately I had a chance to loiter in a forest and I must unfortunately say that the charm of this situation was diminished by permanent attracts of mosquitoes:) I dare say that each picked mushroom cost me one bite and each picked blue berry even two bites. Does any one knows any effective mean against those beasts? I tried some chemistry, some natural means like lemon or vanilla oil and it hardly helps, maybe the best is the lemon oil…

Dlaczego nie łapią się w pajęcze sieci???
Why they do not get caught in spiderwebs???

And one more question, do you pick up mushrooms in your country? Or maybe your traumatic childhood memories connected with a necessity to get up early at 5 a.m. in oder to have the biggest chances caused that you stopped to do it?:) Or maybe it is just a Polish speclality?:)

I must admit that I used to like it, then I stopped (I hated wearing old clothes for this purposes in order they do not get damaged according to my Parents;-)) and then I again started to like it…

Najbardziej lubię maślaki, choć innymi oczywiście nie wzgardzę!

I like boletus luteus (what a name-I guess they are not popoular in English speaking countries!) most but of course I would not spur the others!

A najbardziej lubię je w domowym sosie z polędwiczkami i śmietaną oraz kopytkami własnej produkcji. Przepis jest prosty jak budowa cepa – podsmaża się posiekaną cebulę, dodaje grzyby (jakie się ma, ja nawet kiedyś i kanie wrzuciłam, byle jadalne…), odparowuje trochę, dodaje podsmażone oddzielnie z solą i pieprzem pokrojone polędwiczki, a następnie dodaje śmietanę i posiekaną pietruszkę.

And I like them most in a home made souse with sirloin and cream and home made gnocchi. The recipe is very easy – you fry some chopped onion, add mushrooms (whatever kind of them you have as long as they are eatable…) and fry a little bit, add some sirloin which was fried separately with salt and pepper and add cream plus some chopped parsley.

I am a fan of herbs but I have not found such that would fit with mushrooms. Lazy bones may serve it with grits instead of gnocchi.

I have not tried these berries, but I guess they are rather not eatable?
But they look nice, don't they?

Życzę miłego tygodnia!
Have a nice week!

I have just ate almost the same sauce over liguini, but with store bought mushrooms. In the spring I do look for morels!

Spróbowałam i nawet smakowało.
Bajeczne te kwiaty i motyle !!!

Ola pisze...

Mażena, próbowałam czosnku do spaghetti grzybowego z boczkiem, podobno to z kuchni włoskiej, jest ok:)

Wanda, nice to see you here, you have the same name as my Mom:)

I must admit that I love (eating) mushrooms :-)

Pozdrawiam.

Ola, the mosquitoes love me to :(. I've never found a good way to deal with them either. On the other hand my wife doesn't attract them. We can sit side by side and they're eating me alive and none are bothering her.

Iza pisze...

Ola pisze...

Joe, try natural lemon oil, it works but only on the parts that you put it on, the rest is like an aiport for mosquitoes:)

Allison pisze...

Hi Ola.

Bolets are very popular in Switzerland, though I hardly ever make them. They make me feel like I'm eating slugs! :( But my husband does go morille hunting now and again.

As for mosquitos, I wish I had some remedy for you. My husband gets bitten all summer long, but I rarely do. I know... it's so unfair!

Your picture of the forest is fabulous with the sun shining through. Like you, I wish the warm weather would stay. Rain depresses me so much. Maybe we should retire in Florida! :D

Ola pisze...

Allsion, I would love to retire in Florida (except hurricane periods:)

It really is that time of your.

I love picking mushrooms, but haven't done it for a while ... Pfifferlinge are fun to harvest - they are yellow, and you can't go wrong with them! I've picked them in austria often. xx

cieszę się ,ze powędrowałaś do lasu . Ponieważ my w Białymstoku mamy lasy dookoła całą jesien , jesli jest pogoda przynajmniej raz w tygodniu jestesmy w lesie. :) Pozdrawiam z Podlasia ..

I LOVE fresh wild mushrooms but never pick them. I'm too frightened that the ones I pick might be the wrong ones and I'll get poisoned. Your sauce looks and sounds fantastic!

I spotted the butterfly in the last photo, I must admit I almost missed it because it blends right in.

We had the same mosquito problem for a few weeks this summer, people were literally running from their cars into the supermarket in hopes they wouldn't get bitten. I just rode it out so to speak, there wasn't much I could do. When I was at the farm however, I did put on some repellent and it worked.

Have a fantastic week Ola!

I remember receiving one email that say listerine (mouth-waste) keep mosquitoes away though..yet to try :D

I never picked mushrooms and I'd be afraid I wouldn't know the poisonous ones from the ones that are safe to eat.

I do love to eat mushrooms..all kinds,,,your recipe looks delicious!

Ola pisze...

Nancy, I like goldenrots very much (I didn't know this name) - they are symbols of late summer for me:)

I just LOVE mushrooms going with spaghetti's and a truffle sauce!!!
(Oh and I am on a diet)...
Nice post, Ola!!!!

Doug Hickok pisze...

Delightful post Ola. I like your nature wanderings. We also have lots of mosquitos, even in our yard. They get in the house too. But they are part of the Southern setting here in South Carolina and so we get used to them, sort of.

Style Dilettante pisze...

I adore this post! Makes me think of my father - who was from Italy but risked his life picking mushrooms in neighbors' yards in Canada! Sometimes they ordered him off their property - and sometimes the risk involved eating a potentially poisonous mushroom (but he never did!)

You are so adorable, by the way, with your comments on the pesky mosquitos!

My favorite herb with mushrooms is thyme. I also love rosemary. One of my favorite pizzas I make is mushroom with lots of garlic and thyme and a little white wine in the mushroom sauteing process... I then top the pizza with burratta for the last five minutes of cooking... Multo Bene! It's important to not crowd the mushrooms in the pan - that's how you get them nice and caramelized!

Yours with cream and steak sound SO GOOD!

Enjoy!

I'm a summer animal too! I love hot, dry, sunny weather but I love cool, magical forests too. I would never pick wild mushrooms but only because there are so many poisonous types here in England - we are always hearing of people dying! But I love the sound of your recipes. I would eat them if I knew they were safe.

It's been a long time since I picked any mushrooms. Although I love to do it. What big mushrooms you've managed to find!

Pozdrowienia serdeczne!

I'm envying you your summer picking!! :D it sounds like so much fun... in spite of the mosquitoes. why dont you just try some spray on repellent? Works fine here in India where we have lots of mosquitoes...
I have personally never gone mushroom picking. Neither do I know of any of my friends having done so... So it sounds like quite an adventure to me!
Love the simple dish you put up too!

Swati, I guess it is popular in colder countries:)

Ola,

Your countryside looks so pleasant and green. I live in California which is basically desert in the south, which is why we have so many fires in the summer. I wold be scared to pick mushrooms as I don't know which are poisonous. If I'd started as a kid, I would be OK. The recipe looks good. I add garlic to nearly everything I cook.

Ola pisze...

i to jest słuszna teoria:)

Hi Ola,

How wonderful to be able to go and pick your own mushrooms in the wood, they are nice ones.
We used to pick field mushrooms when I was young but for some reason you do not see many around now days.
