Dookoła Lesbos - cz. I/Round the Lesvos island - part I

I do not have enough time lately – the deadlines at work became so urgent that my blogging became less and less current… I can only promise that I will do my best beginning from November:) This time I would like to invite you for a journey around Lesbos. So far I wrote a bit about its capital (here or here) and Monastery of Saint Rafael which is located close to the town (tu) and about petrified forest (here). Now it is time to go farther. As I probably have mentioned, Lesbos is not much a tourist place, remains of its tourist past are not big and came to an end long time ago but for me it is an advantage. I also believe that if you want to find something interesting you will find it even in regions of the world which are not touristic at all:)

We started our adventure in Taxiarchon Monastery (Archangel Monastery), which, despite Monday was opened – that rarely happens in GreeceJ

The object itself is not very interesting from architecture point of view but you can admire there an icon of Archangel Michael made of dark unidentified material, believed to be blood of monks killed by pirats mixed with mud. A bit scary!

The monastery is not very mystical, there is a lot of people and it is forbidden to take photos but we noticed that only at the exit:)

The next place was Molivos (called also Mithimna) dominated by a huge Genuine castle on the hill.

Under the castle a picturesque pastured but he was obviously not interested in taking photos:)

Molivos to podobno turystyczna stolica wyspy.

Molivos is believed to be a tourist capital of the island. There is a lot of British people in the town, well maybe I have exaggerated, but there is quite many of them, but the times of splendor of this place are gone. Generally it seems that people from Europe stopped going for holidays to Europe.

I must however admit that the port in Molivos is charming and very colorful.

There are some wooden objects there but as much as I was positive about them, I could not decide on making photos of them, not being completely convinced about their picturesque character.

It must be pleasant to go there for a supper outside.

Miasto jest zadbane i ładnie ukwiecone, kaskadami rosną bugenwille i inne egotyczne dla mnie rośliny.

The town is well maintained and full of flowers, bugenvilla and other exotoc for me plants are growing down the hills.

If somebody is considering a stay in Lesvos but not in the loud capital, Molivos seems to be a good choice. I liked especially an olive oil factory made over into a hotel right on the beach.

Oby do lata!
Let there be summer again!

    - Absolutely agree. It's the human mind that finds what's interesting more than anything.

    Photos are beautiful, as usual.

  9. Ola I like how you noticed on your way out that no photos were allowed, a true photographer through and through! lol

The holiday looks fantastic, I love all of your photos and now for sure I'm going to put Greece on my list of places I want to visit. I also don't care for the tourist traps, this is why I'm elated to be going to do my practicum in Australia, I'll get immersed in the culture and get to know the people. Off the beaten path is the only way to go, now to figure out where that is in Australia! lol If I'm going to be doing more traveling I'll going to consult with you first, you find the most amazing places!

    Have a wonderful weekend.

    Pozdrawiam.

  40. It is very true, Ola, that every place and region has beauty to see and appreciate.

Molivos reminded me a little of Southern Italy with the huse all built on a hill and a beautiful marina.
