La Laguna-miasto kolorów i słońca/La Laguna-city of colors and sun

I need some colors and light and I hope that these picture from Tenerife will satisfy this need at least partly. When I posted last time about Tenerife, I was mentioning the fiesta in Tejinia. From this fiesta we went to La Laguna, or if someone prefers to San Christobal de La Laguna, the former capital of the island. Currently it is a university town.

Elegancki i nieco cukierkowy teatr poniżej mógłby stanąć w każdej europejskiej stolicy, mnie od razu przywowłał dalekie skojarzenie z Lwowem.

This elegant and a little bit candy theather could be located in any elegant city, it reminded me about my fafourite city Lvov.

The town is on the UNESCO list but on Sunday afternoon it looked a little bit deserted, here and there few lost tourists bustled around. Maybe this is a charm of old towns introduced on the UNESCO list that the locals don’t like to spend time there and leave it for tourists only or maybe it was simply a siesta and therefore the city looked deserted. To be honest, Warsaw on Sunday afternoon looks also abandoned from time to time.

Ponurej aury miastu dodaje jakoś w dziwny sposób katedra, obecnie w renowacji, zamknięta dla zwiedzających. W swoich wnętrzach kryjące podobno grób jednego z konkwistadorów.

The cathedral causes somehow that the city looks a bit gloomy, currently it is being renovated and is closed to the visitors. In its interiors there is a grave of one of the conquistadors.

La Laguna is believed to be one of the most wet places on the island. It didn’t happened to us at all, we had very hot and exceptionally sunny weather as for north Tenerife.

Dom Kapitanów kusi pięknym dziedzińcem, podobały mi się tutejsze kafelki/The House of Capitains tempts with beautiful yard, I liked also the tiles.

Kolumny też są niczego sobie/The columns are also not bad:)

Pretty church on the square de Concepciones, interesting theater which may be located in any elegant city all over the Word, interesting buildings from XVIII or XIX century. For me the biggest attraction on Tenerife is still el Teide volcano and the town Garachico.

Podobają mi się kolory domów/I liked the colors of the houses.

W każym miejscu można wpaść na jakiś zabytek/Everywhere you can find some monuments of culture.

Odpowiednich naszych kapliczek w kamiennicach/We used to have similiar small shrines in tenement houses

We decided to have a lunch at Casa de Maria on one of the side streets close to the Plaza Concepcion. Quite good paella with meat and mules, meat, probably from rabbit, chicken roulade and a tomato stuffed with salad made of crabs, apples and mayonnaise.

The lady didn’t speak English and we didn’t speak Spanish so we had to use sign language to make the order which wasn’t difficult as the food was placed in counters.

The dishes were quite tasty and it appeared that you can have good lunch for two paying 17 Euro and not spending 25 Euro for a plate of rise...

A paella była naprawdę super!
And the paella was really great!

  19. Hi Ola! Tenerife looks nice and sunny; better than the grey, misty day we had today... And the church is so similar to the Cathedral in Funchal, capital of the nearby Portuguese Madeira Island...

Thanks for your comments at Blogtrotter Two, where the Nile 2010 is coming to an end! But the temple of Philae surely deserves a comment. Enjoy and have an excellent weekend!

  20. I´ve been some places I see at your pics. In two months there is a boat from Huelva (a city close to Seville, where I live) to Tenerife. A romantic way to arrive the islands.

The last item of food down below looks like a version of the embotido, looks juicy, tasty... gosh I am salivating. Haha.
